Yamunotri is one of the four sites in the Char Dham pilgrimage of Uttarakhand. According to the Mahabharata, when the Pandavas set out for a pilgrimage to Uttarakhand, they had already left for Yamunotri and then Gangotri, then Kedarnath and Badrinath. Devotees tie rice and potatoes in a cloth bundle and cook them in the hot water of this kund to offer them as Prasad. After offering Prasad to the Goddess, the devotees take this cooked rice to their homes as Prasad. There is a rock near Suryakund which is called Divya Shila. This rock is also called Divya Jyoti Shila. Devotees worship this rock before worshiping Bhagwati Yamuna.
